Boeing B-17G-95-DL/Mary Alice /231983G/IY-G/(F-BDRS)

Having been on permanent display in the American Air Museum for 14 years and with fluids ocassionally dripping from C-47A-85-DL/315509/ W7-S/(G-BHUB) suspended from the ceiling above it, corrosion has been found on the upper wing panels of 'Mary Alice'. A decision was taken for a complete overhaul and restoration of the airframe including an improved chin turret and colour scheme. Instead of removing the glass panel wall at the front of the American Air Museum, ‘Mary Alice’ is being stripped down to component parts to fit through the emergency exit doors in the glass wall, which are easy to remove, so the work can be carried out in Hangar 5.
